A fantastic morning hike, with a name to raise a few eyebrows! 🤪
We recommend doing this route anti-clockwise. This will mean crossing the river early on (and then you are still close to the car if this proves too difficult, rather than being stranded at the other side!). Luckily the day we did it it was low enough to walk over the stepping stones to the gate without too much drama. Good waterproof boots and trousers would be advisable!
The walk takes you on a slow incline with beautiful views surrounding you. You will walk away from Fan Y Big to begin with, before heading up the mountain.
The summit of Fan Y Big is spectacular. There is a stone protruding out of the peak known as a 'diving board' - great for those of you brave enough to stand on for a fab photo. Just be aware that it get busy very quickly up there.
The walk continues on a short but steep decline from Fan Y Big and once at the bottom it's time to start heading up towards the summit of Cribyn. On route you'll be treated to views of everywhere you've just walked and more.
Heading down from Cribyn is a steep scrabble and isn't for the faint hearted - if you are concerned, you can retrace your steps to the base of Fan y Big and Cribyn and turn left. Once down it's a steadier decline back to the car park.
Flossie.
I enjoyed this nice long walk. I had to have my lead on anti-pull (nicknamed the 'anti-twat' 🤪) for some of the walk because of the steep declines. I particularly enjoyed paddling in the river.
Most of the walk was easy for me, but the scramble was a bit trickier and would be harder for pups smaller than me. 🐶
