Amazing views on a clear day, with optional short detours to see Ashdown House (a super cute 17th-century country house now owned by National Trust) and Wayland's Smithy long barrow (Neolithic Burial Chamber).
We made the mistake of navigating via 'Get Directions' on AllTrails - This took us to a tight lane with no where to leave the car. Instead we recommend you head straight to the White Horse Hill carpark (linked above) where you can easily pick up the route by going through the gate onto White Horse Hill - much easier!
When we arrived we had the hill to ourselves - this was pretty early in the morning though and was fairly busy by the time we returned to the car.
The views are instant and stretch for miles, and they become better and better as you head up the hill.
If following the AllTrails route, as you walk along the ridgeway, there is a turning left towards a farm, which is actually private land. Instead we recommend that you continue along the ridgeway to the next left-hand-turning, where you can easily rejoin the route.
Flossie.
I was very excited by all the wide open space available to me as soon as I got out of the car. However, there was a lack of sticks on this walk and sadly I wasn't allowed to visit Ashdown House.
