How often do you get to pop to a different country just for a morning? Indeed, the Vatican is actually it's own country!

Our tour meet point was on the steps opposite the Musei Vaticani. We definitely recommend visiting the Vatican via a tour, as it allowed us to queue jump (and the queues were huge!)

The tour first took us through museums filled with artwork and priceless artifacts.

Next we visited the Sistine Chapel - Here we were informed of it being a completely silent room and photography was not allowed. The ceiling (painted by Michelangelo in the 16th century) was stunning, although the Chapel was so busy it was almost impossible to move around to take in it's glory.

Finally we visited St Peter's Basilica. The pure scale of the Basilica was breathtaking along with the amount of gold on its walls. We later learnt that you can climb to the top of the Basilica - we looked to do this directly after our tour, but unfortunately the queues were far too long.

Overall the tour was very informative and funny and we would recommend taking it merely to avoid hours of queuing time!

Flossie.

I was not invited on this adventure ☹
